Objective: to verify the knowledge of the teachers of the municipal network in relation to diabetes mellitus. Methodology: this is an exploratory, cross-sectional, descriptive study, following the mixed research design. 84 teachers from the municipal network of elementary schools in the municipalities of Passo Fundo, Cacique Doble and Guaporé participated in the study. Data were collected through individual interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire. Results and discussion: the results showed that most teachers are unaware of what diabetes is, the clinical manifestations and the main care in relation to pathology. In addition, 78% of teachers never received training, lectures or short courses in diabetes, and 59.3% never attended diabetic students. Final considerations: therefore, there is a need to train teachers on Diabetes Mellitus and to create public policies that require a better understanding of the daily life that surrounds children’s health education.
