The world pandemic crisis generated by the new coronavirus disease changes people's routines and affects work processes interfering in relationships. In the hospital environment, such changes have modified the experience of the Social Service resident of the multiprofessional neonatology residency program in a complex general hospital due to the impossibility of visits to the NICU. Objective: to point out the professional strategies of the multiprofessional care routine in a newborn unit during the coronavirus. Method: this is an experience report about the insertion in a neonatal unit of a large hospital in Northern Rio Grande do Sul, during the month of March 2020. Results and discussion: the coronavirus pandemic has made professional interventions difficult, making the interrelationship with the multiprofessional team impossible. Conclusion: it was possible to contribute to the qualification of hospital services, as well as the service based on the integrality of Brazil’s Unified Health System.
