EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF SCORPION ACCIDENTS IN THE STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL

ABSTRACT: Objective: To carry out an epidemiological survey, through the SINAN (Information System for Notifiable Diseases) of the epidemiological profile of scorpion stings in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, from 2017 to 2021. Method: the study is ecological, of a horizontal and retrospective nature, with analysis of data collected at SINAN between the years 2017 to 2021 in Rio Grande do Sul. Results: It was found that 2,255 cases were reported in the years 2017 to 2021, where the average incidence rate was 3.96 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Conclusion: On average, 451 cases are notified per year in the state. The prevalence among male patients corresponds to 52.5% of cases, corresponding to the pattern in the rest of Brazil: men, of economically active age. The months of November, December, and January have the highest number of cases of scorpion stings, with 0.9% being considered serious.
