ABSTRACT
Objective: to identify risk factors for the development of pressure injury in adult and elderly patients in the intensive care unit. Method: this is an integrative literature review, carried out at the Virtual Health Library in August 2021. 447 productions were found, 19 of which were included. Results and discussion: the following risk factors were identified: male gender, age, race, presence of diseases, use of medication, surgical procedure, mechanical ventilation, change in blood pressure, dermatitis, urinary incontinence, use of urinary catheter, diarrhea, inadequate nutrition, impaired mobility, bone pressure, moisture, skin changes, hyperthermia, psychomotor agitation, positive fluid balance, length of stay, among others. The intrinsic factors were the ones that most influenced the development of LP. Conclusion: patients admitted to the intensive care unit are prone to develop a large number of pressure injuries due to instability and failure of one or more physiological systems.
