EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF MATERNAL MORTALITY IN THE STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL FROM 2008 TO 2018

ABSTRACT: Objective: To determine the epidemiological profile of Maternal Mortality in the State of Rio Grande do Sul from 2008 to 2018. Method: This is a descriptive, retrospective and quantitative approach epidemiological research. Secondary data from the Mortality Information System database and the Live Birth Information System database were used. Two indicators were used: the Maternal Mortality Ratio and the Specific Maternal Mortality Ratio. Results: 509 maternal deaths were confirmed during the study period. The highest prevalence of cases occurred among women aged 40-49 years. Deaths were more frequent in black women, with no education and single. The most frequent type of obstetric cause was direct obstetric, prevailing the factors of postpartum hemorrhage and gestational hypertension with significant proteinuria. Conclusion: During this period there were 509 maternal deaths. There was a decrease of 5.86% in the Maternal Mortality Ratio values.
