PALLIATIVE APPROACHES AND MENTAL SUFFERING IN ELDERLY PEOPLE: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Objective: to analyze the evidence in the literature about the possibilities of palliative care for the older adults in psychological distress developed by multidisciplinary teams. Methods: integrative review developed from the identification, analysis, synthesis of knowledge produced in the literature. Data were collected in MEDLINE, LILACS, IBECS, PubMed and SciELO databases. 12 articles were included for review and synthesis of knowledge, which resulted in 04 categories. Results: Among the approaches were identified, showed: recognition of signs and symptoms for early treatment; implementation of practical guidelines for palliative care knowledge of the specifics of palliative care articulated in Networks, including communication and comfort for improvements in quality of life. Conclusion: Early recognition of signs; practical guidelines in the treatment and effectiveness of good communication were evidenced in the review. The care provided by a multidisciplinary team is still being consolidated.
