Objective: To characterize the cost of vacuum dressing as a new technology in wound treatments in a hospital in the southern region of Santa Catarina. Method: Quali-quantitative, descriptive study, consisting of 12 electronic patient records (PEP) from the year 2020, carried out in September 2021. Results: In the PEP, 06 men (50%) and 6 women were found (50%) aged between 36 and 95 years, being 08 (70%) of them elderly. 09 of these had wounds on the lower limbs and 03 in other regions of the body. The patients' treatment time ranged from 6 to 28 days. Discussions: The vacuum dressing is effective for complex wounds, reduces the patient's hospitalization time, reduces the hospital cost for the institution. Final considerations: the patient will have many benefits with the use of the vacuum dressing, since in view of this research, positive results were found when comparing the cost with its benefits.
