Objective: To determine the epidemiological profile of bacterial meningitis in the State of Rio Grande do Sul from January 2014 to December 2019. Method: This is an ecological study, with a descriptive, retrospective design and a quantitative approach, carried out through analysis of secondary data collected in the National System of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN) and in the National Immunization Program (PNI). Results: 6,899 cases of bacterial meningitis were confirmed. The highest prevalence of cases occurred among men (57.4%) and among individuals aged 20-39 years (21.1%). The macro-region with the highest incidence was the Metropolitan (53.8%). The prevalent serogroup was serogroup C (66.2%). Conclusion: the data show a decline in Meningococcal C vaccination coverage in recent years and the need to strengthen the prevention strategies implemented in the state.
