Alcohol consumption during pregnancy poses risks to the pregnant woman and, mainly, to the fetus, due to the great embryotoxicity and fetal teratogenicity. Objective: to address the pattern of alcohol consumption by women during pregnancy and the damage caused to the fetus. Methodology: this study is an integrative literature review, through the search for articles in online databases. Results: of the 69 articles initially found, 20 met the inclusion criteria, with predominant observational population studies. Discussion: ingestion of alcohol by pregnant women, in addition to causing several complications during childbirth, causes serious physical and neurological deformities to the child, as well as behavioral changes. Conclusion: it was found with the results obtained that the use of alcohol during prenatal care is motivated by different reasons, causing significantly serious effects on the fetus.
