Nursing care in attendance of individual with suicide attempt

Introduction: health professionals assist suicide attempts. The nurse is responsible for this management. Objective: reviewing the scientific literature regarding nursing care and individuals attempting suicide. Methodology: Integrative review. Collections performed on LILACS, SCIELO and MEDLINE databases. Inclusion of studies on the topic, answering the guiding question, last ten years. The categories are summarized by means of a table, in which the articles of this review are categorized. Results/discussion: the results of this Integrative Review were categorized into: management of the individual with attempted suicide; the nurse’s role in the face of suicide attempt; difficult aspects that interfere in nursing care and challenges to improve care in the face of suicide attempt. Final considerations: nurses perform important actions, preserving the lives of these patients. In primary care and in emergencies and hospitalizations, nurses can improve care with health education, therapeutic approach and active listening.
